A group of researchers at the University of Michigan, School
of Dentistry started a research
project on understanding oral health
care needs of children with autism. Concrete objectives are to
design materials to help parents
gain a better understanding of how to promote good oral health
in their child, and to develop
educational programs to educate future dental healthcare
providers as well as practicing dentists and dental
hygienists about the needs of this patient group.
The group is currently seeking parents /
guardians of children with autism who would volunteer to
participate in one focus group
meeting to share with the researchers their thoughts about
dental care for their child.
The focus groups will take place in the
University of Michigan, School of Dentistry, North University
Street, Ann Arbor, MI.
Free parking available. The
participants will receive a report of the findings and
recommendations developed on the basis of these focus
groups.
