The Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation is pleased to offer parents and treating physicians a concise screening inventory developed by JBRF director of research, Demitri Papolos, M.D.

The CBQ is a reliable and sensitive indicator used in current JBRF-sponsored studies. However, only an experienced diagnostician with a full understanding of the child’s family history, as well as the symptoms and behaviors that the child exhibits, is qualified to make a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.

It is the intention of JBRF to provide this screening instrument as an organizational aid in the assessment process. The checklist completed by a parent should be submitted to the professional diagnosing his or her child. A Spanish version is also available.

In addition to the CBQ, information on the development and scoring of the CBQ, as well as, Research Diagnostic Criteria for the Core Phenotype, developed from JBRF-sponsored clinical studies, are available in PDF form.
