Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Committed
to extending emotional support and information to families with
children who are deaf or hard of hearing. AG
Bell
offers many programs for parents. There are sections for parents, professionals, deaf and hard of
hearing adults and teens with hearing loss.
The Parent Section includes resources
related to children’s legal advocacy, financial aid, leadership
enrichment program, leadership for teens, and parent advocacy training
as well as a
biweekly
e-newsletter covering hearing loss.
American Society for Deaf Children (ASDC)
Provides
support to families, encouragement and information to families raising
children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Articles are available
regarding options parents have in making communications decisions for
their families, tips for what to do if you think your child may have a
hearing loss, IDEA laws and regulations and implications for families
with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Opportunities to join a
list-serve, participate in training, and borrow items from the lending
library are also available.
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
Is
the professional, scientific, and credentialing association for
audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and
hearing scientists. The ASHA mission is to promote the interests of
and provide the highest quality services for professionals in
audiology, speech-language pathology, and speech and hearing science,
and to advocate for people with communication disabilities. Current
features include quick links to an A-Z topic index, conference and
events, and ASHA’s new on-line store which offers products related
communication disorders.
Michigan
Coalition for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People
(PDF)
Is a statewide coalition of agencies and organizations working
together to improve accessibility and services for Michigan’s Deaf and
Hard of Hearing people. Find and share Michigan and National resources
and Information.
National Association of the Deaf (NAD)
The organization’s
mission is to promote, protect, and preserve the rights and quality of
life of deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the
United States of America. Two sections provide valuable resources. You will find information on
issues related to education, employment, government, health care,
housing and public facilities in the legal rights section. In-depth
information is available on air travel, American Sign Language,
assistive technology, education, emergency preparedness, infant
screening, relay and telecommunications in the advocacy issues
section.
National Coalition on Deafblindness
An organization of
parents, professionals, deafblind people and agencies serving the
population who are deafblind. Efforts focus on legislation in
education and rehabilitation, helping legislators to understand
deafblindness as a unique and complex disability, and to appreciate
the important role the federal government plays through of its
discretionary programs with regard to this low incidence disability.
