Transition for Youth: Leadership

DHS Youth Programs

Includes college tuition assistance, teen parenting, vocational and employment training, crisis assistance to runaway and homeless, independent living and unique leadership training for youth with disabilities.

 

Foster Youth in Transition
Offers valuable information on education, employment, finances, housing, transportation, legal assistance, health and wellness, pregnancy and parenting, youth with disabilities, social life, being a volunteer.

 

Kids As Self Advocates (KASA)
Is a national, grassroots network of youth with disabilities and needs speaking out on various issues. Those issues include: living with disabilities, health care transition issues, school, work, and many more. It helps health care professionals, policymakers and other adults understand what it is like to live their lives and participate in discussions about how to help each other succeed. Site offers various transition related resources and an opportunity to join a forum.
 

The Michigan Youth Leadership Forum (MYLF)
Is for students with Disabilities is a unique career leadership training program for high school juniors and seniors with disabilities.
 
  

Peer Plus, Group Dynamite, and Youth Experiencing Action (YEA)

Helps young people build on their strengths in the areas of: self-esteem, goal-setting, decision-making and problem-solving.

 

Youth and Leadership Camps
There are various opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing youths to get leadership training, as well as enjoy camping. Some programs, such as those listed here, are tailored specifically for deaf and hard of hearing youth.
