The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control Commission is
charged by the Governor and Michigan’s legislature to recommend short
and long-term strategies to:
(a) Enhance public and professional awareness of lead poisoning as a
child health emergency.
(b) Significantly increase blood lead testing rates for young
children.
(c) Eliminate or manage the sources of lead poisoning, especially
focusing on lead-based paint in aged housing.
(d) Assure state interagency as well as public and private cooperation
and communication regarding resolution of this complex environmental
and public health problem.
Public comment on these matters is important to the Commission’s
efforts. This public hearing will enable the Commissioners to
communicate directly with citizens and advocates regarding barriers
and possible improvements in the prevention and control of childhood
lead poisoning.
The Commission requests that persons presenting testimony limit their
remarks to 5 minutes. Testimony longer that that may be provided in
writing and summarized verbally. The Commission also requests but does
not require that persons presenting testimony provide a written copy
of his/her remarks.
Participation via teleconference will be available by special
arrangement, for presenters unable to travel to Flint. Contact Amy
Wiles at the number above to make arrangements.
The Commission will also accept written public comment submitted by
